We would like to give two examples of our Child Rescue and Adoption project in Samastipur in Bihar in our report on India today.
Bihar ranks last in the Sustainable Development Index of all states in India. In total, since the start of the program, we have placed more than 20 children with new families and successfully returned almost 200 children who had run away from home either to family members or handed over to social institutions.
Let us start with an example of how we “rescue” children and take care of them in our center. We take care of children aged 0 to 6 years.
On 15.12.2023, one of our employees received an unknown call from the village of “Mahadev Math Rosar” (about 30 km from Samastipur) to rescue a child who had been “dumped on the street”. After receiving the call at 5 p.m. in the evening, our team reached the rescue site directly. First, we had to gain the trust of the villagers. Then at 11.50 pm at night, the child could be taken away. Our team works under the control and guidance of the government in Samastipur. The baby was taken to Sadar Hospital in Samastipur for examination.
At the time of admission, the child weighed 1.38 kg. Since the rescue of the child took place in winter, the doctor was not too optimistic as the baby’s condition was very critical. The doctor treated the newborn and tried his best to save the life.
The child was admitted to SNCU (Special Newborn Care Unit) for nine days where he was constantly monitored by hospital staff and our staff. The baby was shifted to our center on 23.12.2023.
Pampering and caring for the child was very difficult at that time, but the constant care of our “mothers” helped to improve the health condition significantly. Currently, the child weighs 3.9 kg after 4 months of care.
Our second example concerns the adoption of a child.
On May 22, 2023, a 4-year-old boy was handed over to us by the Child Welfare Committee and cared for by us at the center. We took over the temporary guardianship and completed all formalities in accordance with the Juvenile Justice Care and Protection Act.
We applied for approval for adoption on September 11, 2023 and received the legally valid certificate from the relevant authority on October 17, 2023.
After contacting a couple in Kolkata and completing the complex adoption process, the child was handed over to the adoptive parents in February 2024.
Unfortunately, not all children are lucky enough to find new parents after such a short time. In 2023, we were also able to place a girl with a couple.
Currently, two boys and four girls live in our center, three of whom are in need of serious care and are ill.
Our thanks go to our local partner organization in India, the Creation India Society. Together we are carrying out several projects in Varanasi, Samastipur and Bihar.
We are very grateful to you as a sponsor. Without your kind support nothing would be possible.
